Manuela Abreu, LL.M

Independent Director & Advisor

With a career spanning more than 20 years across respected institutions including Deloitte and EY Luxembourg, Manuela has honed her considerable skills working with some of the largest European asset managers on incredibly challenging projects.

Having participated in countless board meetings, as an invited speaker on taxation topics related to the investment fund industry, briefing board members on compliance obligations and opportunities to enhance the fund’s returns, she realised that this is where her knowledge and understanding of the industry could be put to its best possible use.

Manuela has represented both Deloitte Luxembourg and EY Luxembourg at the European Fund and Asset Management Association (EFAMA) and has been an active participant in various working groups of the Luxembourg Investment Funds Association (ALFI).

As an Associate Partner at EY Luxembourg, she was in charge of a fully dedicated funds tax team, tasked with servicing UCITS funds, alternative investment funds – private equity, real estate, infrastructure and credit – management companies, custodian banks, and corporate service providers, in all fund topics that could impact their returns but also managing an extensive range of tax risks and opportunities.

During more than a decade with Deloitte, in Luxembourg and Portugal, she worked as part of the financial services tax team, and the wider investment management practice. Here, she had the opportunity to provide a multitude of services to her asset management clients throughout the investment fund’s lifecycle, from inception up until exit and liquidation.

As a member of the Institut Luxembourgeois des Administrateurs (ILA), Manuela fully complies with the ILA Code of Conduct, continuously investing and actively participating in specific industry training, and always keeping abreast of regulatory changes.

Manuela is a member of the Portuguese Bar, with an LL.M in International and EU taxation from Queen Mary University of London (in conjunction with the London School of Economics). She is a Portuguese national, tax resident in Luxembourg since 2007. As well as Portuguese, she is fluent in English and French, can converse in Spanish and understand Italian.
